Citigroup Statement Processing Center
South Bend, Indiana
A phase of Panzica’s master-planned Crescent at Blackthorn research and technology campus, the building known as Crescent Three was purpose-built for Citigroup to Tier III data center standards. The mission-critical data output facility with 300 employees was a 24/7/365 operation that output, sorted and mailed a peak of 1.5 million credit card statements per day.
Amenities included full UPS back-up of all essential building operations with a diesel-powered electrical generator capable of sustaining all building functions for three days without refueling. Systems integrity was successfully proven when the building survived a near-miss by an F3 tornado and continued operations with no downtime despite a general power outage in the surrounding business park that lasted two days.
Located on a prime site adjacent to the interchange of I-80/90 and US 31, the original 60,000 sq. ft. phase of the project was completed on a fast-track basis in only six months. Panzica coordinated multiple data/telecommunications/safety-security/specialty equipment vendors to achieve turnkey integrated project delivery. Green design components included ample day lighting of the high-bay paper storage warehouse achieved by a 120-foot long clerestory strip window of translucent insulated fiberglass.
After the closure of Citigroup’s local operations, this facility was re-visioned by Panzica as the award-winning Career Academy South Bend.
