PEI-Genesis North American Assembly Facility
South Bend, Indiana
Panzica had previously completed the successful expansion of PEI-Genesis’s South Bend electronics assembly plant on Bendix Drive. When the client decided upon a major expansion, Panzica was engaged to locate, assess, negotiate and represent PEI-Genesis in acquiring a new 20-acre site on Cleveland Road.
The new precast concrete and steel plant is a world-glass electronics assembly and distribution facility serving a global market. Panzica collaborated with with PEI-Genesis management in the operation’s process planning, providing design input that helped improve production flow while master-planning the campus for future growth and expansion.
The project won a national award for the use of precast-prestressed concrete. The building includes many sustainable design features and a high level of finish in the two-story corporate office. A signature element of the architecture is a front facade signage pier emulating a copper-tipped electronics connector.
