Holy Cross Village Riverside Place
Independent Living Senior Apartments
Notre Dame, Indiana
Following Panzica’s construction management of a major campus expansion in 2007, Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame has maintained high occupancy. In response to increased demand for independent living options, the Riverside Place apartment building underwent interior renovation by Panzica. Originally built for residency only by Brothers of Holy Cross, Riverside Place was well appointed and maintained, though with a décor deemed too austere and “too masculine” for lay seniors.
After an independent focus group study identified aspects of the building in need of refinement, Panzica was engaged to design and execute a total makeover of the public spaces. New appointments included carpeting, wallcovering and paint, new ceiling and lighting treatments, stone cladding, furniture, artwork and accessories down to selecting china pieces for curio cabinets.
In doing so, Panzica’s interior design team crafted a pleasing new aesthetic that evokes a strong connection to the building’s pleasant wooded waterside setting, perched high on a bluff above the St. Joseph River. A new warm, earth-toned palette was rooted in custom-patterned carpeting featuring the seal of the Brothers of Holy Cross with images of native water plants. Themed common areas invite lingering and interaction, and include a soothing water feature in the main lobby, a coffee bar with bistro seating, and an entry foyer outfitted to resemble a summer boathouse.
